I forgot to mention about contract time scales. This is probably more of a personal thing than anything but every single client and prospect, I put them on a 12 month contract.

Why? well if you're like me and specialise in organic SEO then you will need time for the keywords to kick in. and a yeah should be more than enough time to start seeing results, plus it gives you a window just in case G,Y,M make any algorithm changes.

I have heard that some companies charge on an hourly bases. This is for research and doing a simple task but a whole SEO campign? seems pretty silly and the client getting ripped off.

Another one I have heard is 3 month contracts, again, you really can't do a lot in that short amount of time.

They are just some examples, of course time factors are also industry dependent and how competitive each keyword is.
