This will depend on how strong the links to your site are, for example you may actually get a PR5 from the two PR6 links that points to your site. For example, if your link is the only link on a strong pr6 page, that is a high PR6 then the possibilities of getting a PR5 is very high.
On the other hand if the PR6 that links to you is one that is just above pr5 and has about 20 other external links including yours then you may not get a PR5 or any pr passed on to your site. So the stronger the PR of the page that links to you the higher the possibilities of getting a PR just below the strong page, and the less external links on the page that links to you, the higher the possibilities of getting a good pr passed on to your site.
The moral of the story is if someone offer you a link exchange on a PR6 page with about 50 other links, accept it but do not reciprocate as the link is almost worthless when it comes to passing on PR.
On the down side, some pages/sites do not actually pass any PR on to your page.
