Depending on subject and content they don't often need a lot of promotion as they can grab a lot of organic searches anyway.

It's a bit like website creation really but on a mini scale. If you hit it lucky on a good niche you can get a lot of traffic in a very short space of time. Google and most search engines crawl squidoo almost daily so you can get traffic in a very short space of time.

Personally I'm still learning about web design and marketing and squidoo is a great playground for me to have fun in. I've used it recently just to rant about a few subjects - Bejing Olympics , Google Auctions , George Lamb (crap uk radio dj)
as well as doing lenses purely promoting products to earn commission - Hemp Clothes , Toothbrush Sanitizers , Canon DSLR Lenses , Wind-Up Gadgets, light therapy devices and thats just a start on my 'commercial' lenses.
I have one or 2 tutorials like using ebay RSS feeds and fun ones like my Captain Pugwash, Bagpuss and Ivor The Engine ones.

If you want to have a look at the full range of my squidoo output my lensmaster page is here
