Well Georgel, firstly I would like to greet you among us here at UKWW. Everyone may find the original copyright notes in every single php files, so i don't think that we would use anything behind the roof.
The JV serie is freely downloadable similarly to the earlier version so I not really see your point.
I'm very glad that Magento offers much stabled and tested version, but to be honest I have never heard about it.
