I second that. Also in addition to that, I would say that when you design a website you should consider these factors

1. Onsite Factors:
Once a visitors arrives on your website, he/she can be categorized into the following groups;
A) People who came to your site to buy specifically what you are offering.
B) People who are researching before they buy, they might come later.
C) People who might buy if they get convinced.

2. Draw the perfect website structure:
It includes, Brainstorming, Sitemap, create scenarios and personas.

3. Your website's Communication:

4. Keep Experimenting:
It includes, Survey, Web Analytics...etc

If you work on your website by following these techniques you will be able to turn your website visitors into your customers.
