Forums are great, I find that sometimes you can learn a lot, sometimes you can piss someone off and sometimes just chitchat. And of course let's be honest: post links, links and more links ...

What it takes to run forum? I would have no idea, I can only imagine that a person would need to be motivated to be online a lot and answer lots of questions, of course being active etc. One more thing that would be required is to be patient and be able to pick the spammers.
